Tundra is the coldest and harshest of all of the biomes. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturia which means treeless plain. It is known for its landscapes moulded from frost, extremely low temperatures, poor nutrients, short growing seasons and little precipitation.
In Tundra ecosystems there are no trees and they are located in the arctic on top of mountains, where the climate is colder than normal and wind and rainfall is common. Tundra lands are covered in snow for pretty much the whole year until summer when, a burst of wildflowers appear.
The animals that live in Tundra have adapted to the extremely cold weather. Most of the animals hibernate during the cold parts of the year and are able to quickly breed during the summer season. Some animals that live there are Squirrels, Arctic Foxes, Wolves, Polar Bears, Birds, Insects and Fish.
